About Samir Patel:
I teach in the ancient Indian Tantric lineage of Kashmir Shaivism, especially the Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra, practices of spontaneous recognition and using tantric poetry and Dark retreats as portals into higher states of being. Over 15 years, I have meditated for thousands of hours and built a strong foundation of Vipassana in both the Thai forest tradition (Ajahn Chah) and Burmese traditions (S.N. Goenka). I took a deep dive to learn the Yoga of the Subtle Body & Yoga therapy and exploring the healing aspects of Yoga at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in India. Often referred to as "the father of modern yoga”, Krishnamacharya is widely regarded as one of the most influential asana teachers of the 20th century. He was a teacher to B.K.S Iyengar and others who brought asana to the west. The missing piece in meditation and Yoga for me was lack of focus on ‘Wonder, Joy and Delight’, lack of an understanding of trauma and remnant unaddressed shadows of patriarchy. Those missing pieces were filled in when I discovered the path of Tantra. I am grateful to the practices of mind-body awareness, the energetics of the subtle body and the secrets of the breath. They have become the foundation of my current practices. I learned Jungian Psychology, Trance & Creativity from Clarissa Pinkola Estes and Climate justice, systems theory and key tantric teachings in Tibetan Buddhism from Joanna Macy. For my own heart, I run an effort called ‘Healers Beyond Borders’ in Tijuana, Mexico that empowers Central American refugees to be self-sufficient in all their nutrition needs using regenerative principles of organic farming.
Note: We acknowledge and celebrate that these practices come from ancient spiritual lineages. Everyone is welcome to this event regardless of spiritual background or lack thereof!
