WHAT IS THIS WORKSHOP?
You are not dreaming. The world is in crisis. And we need a movement that can respond to the escalated forms of violence. And yet, too often when our own responses escalate and we engage in radical forms of direct action, we also tend to escalate the us vs. them, right vs. wrong worldview. This is a worldview of separation and binary. Could it be that this worldview is at the heart of what is destroying our planet?
In this workshop, we will explore how we can build a movement that can respond to this heightened levels of violence without producing more trauma in the world, and in our own bodies.
How do we build movements that have the courage to shut down highways and open up our hearts?
What would it look like if we viewed direct action as a modality of collective trauma healing?
What is the inner healing work that we need to be doing in our own movements so that we can offer healing to the world?
How do we balance the need for our own healing with the urgency of addressing systemic violence?
Join us in this interactive, intensive and transformational workshop as we prepare our communities for healing action.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This workshop is open to anyone who identifies as Black, Indigenous or as a Person of Color.
While this workshop is a stand-alone workshop, we are also using this as an opportunity to invite people into the Yet-To-Be-Named Network, a decentralized constellation of small teams of people dedicated to direct action at the intersection of climate justice and racial healing.
Specifically, the YTBN Network in the Bay Area will be organizing actions leading up to the November election. This workshop is a special invitation to those who want to join our preparation for that work.
We have been deeply inspired by the recent surge of popular uprisings. And yet, we also seek a place in this larger movement ecology that sees our work as an attempt to bring healing to all beings, to honor the dignity of all life, and to move us closer to Beloved Community.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
All events at the East Point Peace Academy are offered on a Gift Economy. This means that there is no fee to register, and everybody is welcome to attend regardless of their ability to pay. An opportunity will be offered to participants to give gifts to support the work of our organization and to support the facilitators. No amount is too small or too large.
