Free Me!: A conversation with Kevin Cooper, calling in from San Quentin's Death Row

East Point Peace Academy and San Francisco's Amnesty International Local Group 30 are proud to co-host this very special event, featuring Kevin Cooper calling in from San Quentin's death row to discuss his continuing struggle for freedom and for the abolition of the death penalty. Please join us!!

About Kevin Cooper:

Kevin Cooper is a prolific artist, writer, orator, abolitionist and human rights defender who has been caged on San Quentin's Death Row for almost four decades. He has always maintained his innocence of murders he was convicted of in 1985. The case has a long history of police and prosecutorial misconduct, evidence tampering, and numerous constitutional violations including many incidences of the prosecution withholding evidence of innocence from the defense. He was three hours and 42 minutes from being executed in 2004 but received a stay of execution at the last minute. He actively struggles for his freedom, complete exoneration and the abolition of the death penalty worldwide. On May 28th 2021 Governor Newsom signed an executive order for an independent investigation into his case. He currently sits in San Quentin awaiting the conclusion of their investigation.
